The picture above is Tammy posing in the bedroom of a cardboard house made by Ideal Toy Corp. dated 1963. Thanks to a dear Tammy friend, I learned that Ideal made a doll house for Barbie and Tammy type fashion dolls, as well as one for Tammy. Although this is not a Tammy house, it works well for a neat set.
Show and Tell
1. Foreign Tammy , Tammy Family, or Clones: Wearing Original Outfit Doll Was Purchased In
Ideal Tammy - Made In Hong Kong from the UK
Doll's shoulders are stamped "Ideal Toy Corp. - Made In Hong Kong" Head is stamped "Ideal Toy Corp. - BS 12"
Although the doll's head says one thing, I believe this is a Hong Kong clone or Tammy knock off. The doll's back is marked "Made In Hong Kong." The back of the head is stamped "Ideal Toy Corp. BS 12." The Ideal markings are slightly skewed, but very readable.
Based on what little experience I've had with the Ideal Hong Kong dolls, it seem they have weak right legs at the upper thigh and joint. Also, I've yet to see a Hong Kong Tammy doll with curly hair.
2. Tammy In Romper Outfit Other Than US Issue: -----
3. Variation of US Outfit Issued For Another Country: ------
4. Tammy Wearing Native Costume, Historical or Ethnic Outfit:
The Gypsy Tammy
This doll is in the exact same condition today as I received her - beads and all - a long time ago. When I received the doll, I couldn't believe the way it looked, and haven't even removed the outfit to clean it, the doll, or even look at the doll's markings on its back. It just charms me to the touch, and I am thinking about framing her just as she is, dirt and all.
The costume is removable, and the needlework is sew fine. The velvet vest is completely lined and almost looks reversible. It also snaps. The seed bead work on the vest is some of the finest I've seen. The way the outfit was sewn tells me this is not a modern at all. The flowers in her hair are true vintage, but I do not know if they are original with the costume. I have no idea if Ideal ever made an ethnic Romanian or Hungarian type dressed doll in or for a foreign market, or if a gifted tailor lovingly adorned this doll for a treasured child. I only knew when I saw this doll, it was something special to me.
It sure would be wonderful if one of the experts know something about it.
5. Unusual Tammy & Family Item:
I thought this doll was unusual in that of all the Tammy dolls I have seen marked "Made In Japan," this is the only one I've come across that has dark reddish brown hair (tosca?).
